Invisible concert in Montreal by Regard Persan

Concert-Launch of the second album of the Trio Regard Persan, composed of Saeed Kamjoo (kamanche), Pooria Pournazeri (tanbour) and Ziya Tabassian (percussion). “Invisible” is the result of the exploration of the members of the trio, tracing the invisible path between tradition and modernity in their compositions.

Regard persan:

Saeed Kamjoo, kamanche

Pooria Pournazeri, tanbour

Ziya Tabassian, percussion

Guest artist: Habib Hosseini, vocal

Friday October 11 2019, 8pm

Tickets: $ 15 Students, seniors, artists; $ 25 Regular Conservatory Ticket Office (514-873-4031 ext. 313)

“Invisible” is inspired by classical and regional Persian music and bears the fruit of the collective and individual work of Regard Persan’s musicians. In their continual quest to understand the roots of music and apply them to modern language, the ensemble collaborates alongside numerous talented musicians and artists from a variety of cultural backgrounds that exposes them to a world of diverse cultures.

While delving into their traditional musical roots, the compositions on the “Invisible” album also draw from other cultural sources. Ziya Tabassian’s modal and contemporary composition “Invisible Circle” draws on 17th century rhythmic cycles while Saeed Kamjoo explores multi-dimensional textures of melody in “Crossed Parallels.”

The diversity of the musicians’ personal perceptions are expressed throughout the album, starting with Pooria Pournazeri’s opening depiction of Canadian life in “Winter in Québec” while Kamjoo’s reflections and memories of home in “Tehran” close out the album.

The deep roots of “Invisible” from its classical Persian music and culture branch into the modern through Pournazeri’s song “Ocean of Dreams” which wistfully evokes the spiritually touching words of Rumi and reflect the long journey of discovery of the musicians in creating and producing their own musical language. In exploring the path between tradition and the contemporary, “Invisible” sets out to depict this otherwise invisible journey.

Founded in 2013 by three Irano-Canadian musicians living in Montreal, Regard Persan trio has an innovative concept where each member explores a new sound of Persian music through their respective instruments.

Between tradition and modernity, the music of Regard Persan trio innovates to create contemporary music that lifts the audience outside of time, to travel with the music. Regard Persan was born after a magical concert in 2013 at “Garage Concerts” series in Montreal. Since then, they have played several concerts in Canada, Europe and China. They will be on tour in China in September and November 2019.
