Students affected by U.S. travel ban can apply for free at University of Calgary

لینک کوتاه :

The University of Calgary is waiving admission application fees for citizens of the seven countries affected by the U.S. travel ban.

The move is meant to “ensure students have every opportunity to pursue or complete their studies,” officials said in a statement on Thursday.

“This includes new applicants and those who are currently in the U.S. who wish to transfer or continue their studies as a visiting student.”

Applying for admission at the U of C can cost up to $145.

The U.S. President’s executive order last week prevents visitors from Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Iran, Somalia, Libya and Yemen from entering the United States for 90 days.

Universities Canada issued a statement recently condemning the ban and the negative effects it will have on students, staff, visiting academics and academia in general.

Based on official website of University of Calgary:

The University of Calgary is committed to supporting students, faculty and staff who are impacted by President Trump’s recent executive order to restrict travel from seven countries to the United States.

“Our university is based on diversity, inclusivity, and the free exchange of scholarship and ideas across international boundaries,” said President Elizabeth Cannon.  “These values are the foundation of great universities worldwide.  Any restriction that prevents students and scholars from going abroad for study, teaching or research is deeply concerning, and has a profound impact not only on scholarship but also on family relationships of our university community members.”

Added Cannon: “The University of Calgary stands with Universities Canada and other Canadian universities in continuing to welcome students, faculty and staff from around the world, including those seeking refuge from violence and hardship. Within the university community, our diversity is our strength.”

During these uncertain times, the university is assessing the impacts of the executive order to ensure that students, faculty and staff, including international students and scholars, can continue their studies, teaching and research. Following is information and contacts for affected individuals.
